A unique West London neighbourhood, Little Venice is known for its tree-lined, stucco-fronted streets, picturesque canals and waterside homes. It’s a rare combination of a peaceful residential atmosphere and the convenience of inner-city living, offering residents the best of both worlds.
Little Venice is full of lesser-known treasures, and as London locals, we know just what to do in Little Venice to make the most of your next visit. From our favourite Little Venice bars, cosy pubs and cafés to its hidden gems and waterside spots, our guide highlights the best of the local area, whether you’re visiting for the day or planning a longer stay.
Breakfast & Family Favourites
For an excellent start to the day, head to Clifton Nurseries, a long-standing local favourite and one of the most idyllic cafés in Little Venice. With its unique, pretty setting and fresh food, it's a spot worth visiting to enjoy a morning coffee and breakfast. Explore its plant-filled nursery before settling into its café, where you'll find a selection of fresh artisan bakes and savoury breakfast classics.
If you're visiting at the weekend with little ones, make your way to the Puppet Theatre Barge for a unique family experience. Housed in a converted canal barge, this floating theatre hosts traditional puppet and marionette performances on Saturday and Sunday mornings - a lovely little treat for younger visitors.
Lunch in Little Venice: Cafés & Restaurants
For a leisurely lunch, head to one of Little Venice’s canal side restaurants. For fresh seafood, including oysters, king prawns and calamari, stroll over to The Summerhouse for tranquil waterside dining. You’ll be sitting right on the edge of the canal, so you can enjoy your lunch while watching the swans swim by.
For contemporary European cuisine, head to The Waterway, located alongside the canal. With its pretty interiors, it’s also a lovely spot to sit outside and enjoy an alfresco lunch or a drink, weather permitting.
Just around the corner is neighbouring St John’s Wood, a leafy residential pocket with a village-like feel and home to Panzer’s Deli. It’s stocked with gourmet deli offerings, from artisan cheeses and freshly baked goods to speciality ingredients and international finds from around the world. You can also stop for a coffee to go or grab a bite to eat in its sit-in café.
When you’re visiting in the warmer months, we recommend our Europa House guests pick up provisions at Panzer’s for a picnic before heading back to the apartments' three-acre, award-winning private gardens. For children, there's also a playground to enjoy while you relax.
Afternoon activities & local gems
We think of Little Venice as one of London's leafiest neighbourhoods, which makes it easy to see why it's such a lovely place to explore on foot. For a leisurely afternoon stroll, follow the canal towpath and stop off at the waterside café - housed in a converted barge - for a coffee along the way.
A short detour down the (not-so) long and winding road takes you to the iconic Abbey Road Studios, where The Beatles’ famous Abbey Road album cover was captured on the zebra crossing just outside. A must-see when exploring the local area.
Little Venice is close to one of London’s largest parks, Regent’s Park. Explore its vast green spaces, including a stroll through Queen Mary's Rose Gardens. If you’re visiting in spring or summer, be sure to catch a show at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
For vintage lovers, you won’t want to miss nearby Alfies Antique Market. With four floors of vintage fashion, interiors, jewellery and antiques, plus a rooftop café, it's a destination in its own right.
For a unique route to explore different parts of the city, hop aboard the London Waterbus, located just opposite the waterside café, and enjoy a scenic journey along Regent’s Canal to Camden.
Evenings in Little Venice: Bars, Bistros & Pubs
One of Little Venice’s standout spots, and a must-visit, is The Hero. Run by the same group behind The Pelican in Notting Hill, The Hero is a stylish dining and drinking destination, known for its elevated, seasonal pub food and distinct atmosphere.
For intimate, French bistro-style dining, make a reservation at Paulette on Formosa Street. It offers an authentic French experience, with a menu of French classics and wines in a small, understated setting.
Just opposite Paulette, head to The Prince Alfred for a nightcap. This historic, characterful pub sits on the street corner and makes a lovely spot to round off the evening.
